High expectations - low fuel consumption.
The four-cylinder diesel engine in the
BMW 1 Series Coupé 123d.
Never underestimate the power of diesel. The 123d is the world's first four-cylinder
diesel engine with Variable Twin Turbo. In the engine block, now made solely of
aluminium, two different-sized turbochargers are deployed sequentially to dispense
extra power right across the rev range. Exceptional performance is ensured thanks
to third-generation common rail injection. Up to 150 kW/204 hp in the 123d. And fuel consumption levels remain surprisingly low at about
five litres per 100 km.
