One of the greatest risks of injury in a collision is the abrupt forwards and backwards movement of the head and neck. Crash-active headrests considerably reduce the risk of whiplash. When hit from behind, within 20 milliseconds the headrest shifts forwards, thereby softly bolstering the head when it moves back again.
