Put your foot down on rising petrol prices - and reduce your emissions too!
Clean up with BMW's Award Winning, Clean Burning Diesel Engines
Diesel engines accounted for 54% of total BMW sales in 2008 compared to 36 percent in 2007 and 27 percent in 2006. 2008 also saw an increase in demand for BMW's smaller vehicles with the most popular by far being the diesel-powered BMW 118d which was named '2008 World Green Car of the Year’
Key to our success has been the ability to achieve fuel efficiency gains in our internal combustion engines that outperform even the most frugal hybrids without compromising the trademark BMW drive experience.
The fuel economy and low CO2 emissions of clean diesel cars offer an enormous environmental benefit however, in New Zealand these cars are penalised with the same levy placed on commercial trucks, almost completely eroding the cost-benefit of buying a fuel-efficient vehicle.
The Government itself has acknowledged the environmental benefits of new, clean diesel technology and it is now time to reconsider the way we tax diesel passenger cars.
BMW EfficientDynamics
BMW is considered the world's most sustainable carmaker having topped the automotive industry in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for the last four consecutive years. This result is largely attributable to the BMW EfficientDynamics development strategy which involves looking at every element of a car's design to find ways improving fuel economy while also enhancing power and performance. BMW EfficientDynamics measures are part of the standard package with every new BMW with more than one million BMW vehicles now on the roads which feature these technologies.
In 2007, BMW and MINI (another BMW Group vehicle brand) accounted for 48 percent of the total CO2 reductions by the entire automotive industry in the UK. Over the same period, many other manufacturers (including some who manufacture hybrid vehicles) saw an increase in their total emissions.
